Da’wah~

Da’wah

Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good preaching.

– Qur’an, Sura 16 (An-Nahl), Ayah 125.

Da’wah means “to extend an invitation” in Arabic.

In Japan, Da’wah is used in the sense of a Muslim telling a non-Muslim about the Islamic faith.

Therefore, Da’wah is often misunderstood and interpreted as “the act of converting non-Muslims to Islam.

In Japan, “religion” has a strong image of coercion, and the word “conversion” is often associated with a sense of awe.

In Islam, however, the scriptures state

“There shall be no compulsion (acceptance) of religion.”

[Quran 2:256].

With this statement, Da’wah never forces conversion.

Muslims believe that each person’s destiny is entirely guided by Allah.

Therefore, it is neither the responsibility nor the right of individual Muslims to convert others.

The goal of Da’wah is to share the wisdom gained from Allah and to help others better understand the Faith, and this is done for Muslims as well as non-Muslims.

The choice to receive or not to receive Da’wah is also made by the hearers themselves.

Da’wah is a process of meaningful conversation on both sides for a better understanding of the Faith.

Have you ever heard of the story of the North Wind and the Sun?

The North Wind and the Sun are about to engage in a contest of strength.

They decided to play a game to see if they could make a passing traveler take off his cloak.

First, the north wind blows with all his might and tries to blow off the traveler’s cloak. However, the traveler, who did not want to be cold, held on to his cloak tightly, and the north wind was unable to remove the traveler’s clothes.

Next, the sun shone brilliantly warm. Then the traveler could not stand the heat, and this time he took off his cloak himself.

The moral of this story is that “if you try to move someone forcefully, he will reject you with a stubborn attitude, but if you have consideration for him and kind words, he will open his heart to you.

The Islamic concept of Da’wah is also the same as the lesson of this story.

The Importance of Da’wah in Islam

Da’i is a person who encourages people to understand and accept Islam through dialogue and

It can be said to be a missionary who leads people to the Islamic faith.

Not conveying the doctrine (the message from the Prophet) and concealing knowledge is considered disobedience to Allah.

There are verses that explain how the curse of Allah causes the curse of Allah to fall on such people.

“Indeed, those who conceal from clear evidence and guidance what we have sent after we have revealed it for the people of the Bible-they are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse.”

In the Hadith, too, the importance of Da’wah is emphasized as follows.

Whoever directs someone to do good will get the same reward as the one who does good.”

Da’wah in Japan will require great patience.

But the smallest detail may lead to the answer they have been looking for for a long time.
